I'm sitting on the floor preparing for a presentation I have to give tomorrow and enjoying this view between notecards.

(I do love Christmas, but I recognize that it's kind of gross to dedicate three posts to Yuletide cheer before the first day of December.  Whatever, it's happening anyway.)

I had an incredible, wonderful, uplifting, relaxing Thanksgiving break!  One of the fun things I got to do was attend the Singing Christmas Tree, which I participated in last year (can you spot me in this picture?)

In case you've never been, the Tree is schmaltz to the MAX.  It's totally delightful schmaltz, but schmaltz just the same.  Example: this little number figured prominently in the show this year, reminding me that there are actually three songs, not two, on my list of all-time least favorite Christmas songs (the other two are Feliz Navidad and The Christmas Shoes, if you're wondering.)

However.  Lest you think I have any semblance of good taste when it comes to music, I need to let you know that the Tree also sang this song, which I LOVE.  So cheesy, yet so awesome.  As my dear friend Maryann told me as I was giving her a ride back to Seattle and forcing her to listen to my Christmas 2009 playlist: "I thought I had the sappiest Christmas music ever.  But I was wrong."

I've been listening to this one on repeat since I switched to Christmas music this year (last Saturday, just FYI.)  I've had the album for several years now, but for some reason this song appeals to me right now.  I like the reworking of the melody and the undercurrent of anticipation.  Plus, I just love the words in the second verse.

And finally, because I feel like I should somehow acknowledge Thanksgiving and because I love Rachel Dratch:

Okay, I know it's upsetting to see this much Yuletide cheer before Thanksgiving even happens, but I have an excuse.  I'm heading home on Tuesday night, and once I get back next week, school will own me until the end of the quarter.  If this was going to happen, it had to happen this weekend.  So it did.
